What is da Vinci Decathlon?

The da Vinci Decathlon is an academic competiton designed to challenge and stimulate the minds of school students. Students compete in teams of eight across 10 disciplines including engineering, mathematics, code breaking, art and poetry, science and English.

The da Vinci Decathlon began in 2005 as an exciting offshoot of the very successful da Vinci Program for gifted and talented students at Knox. The Decathlon is designed to celebrate the academic gifts of Australian youth by providing a stimulating and challenging competition run in the spirit of an Olympic Decathlon.

Growth of the Decathlon

What began as a local competition, with public and private schools invited to the experience has grown to be a national phenomenon, involving hundreds of students from Year 5 through to Year 10 who compete in teams of eight.

The growth has been so enormous, and interest so high, that chapter schools in Western Australia, Victoria and Queensland now run individual local and state competitions, in order to choose representatives for the national final held each year at Knox Grammar School over several days of competition and cultural events.
